CCDC was granted accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in 1988, the first program in our community and one of the first in the country to achieve this status. NAEYC commended the staff “for achieving consistently high ratings in all components of the evaluation.” We have continuously maintained our accreditation since then, achieving three merit extensions during that time, a distinction granted to only 2% of accredited programs.
We were granted reaccreditation in 2014. In six of the ten standards, we scored 100+, having met “emerging criteria” in these areas. Those areas are: Assessment, Health, Families, Community Relationships and Leadership & Management. We met 100% of the criteria in Relationships and Teaching. In Curriculum 97% and in Physical Environment, 96%. Because of the “extra credit”, our overall score is actually more than 100%!!
In addition, we were commended for our program and classroom portfolios.
There were only two criteria that included Areas for Ongoing Improvement:
This may require some doable changes to fully comply, other changes may be more significant.
While demonstrating our commitment to excellence on the day of a visit is, of course, vital, it is far more impressive to practice and live the standards every day. Staff and families are to be commended for their engagement and commitment to the highest standards of quality.
